Behind the Build: Transforming an Alexandra Headlands deck in time for Summer

Not every renovation is about creating something new. Sometimes, it's about restoring the parts of your home you already love.

Our recent Alexandra Headland project involved replacing the structural foundations of an ageing timber deck that had reached the end of its serviceable life. By carefully demolishing the existing structure and rebuilding it with new custom-fabricated steel posts, bearers and joists, we've given our clients a safe, durable outdoor space that's built to withstand the coastal environment.

With quality workmanship, careful planning and the right structural solutions, this deck is ready to be enjoyed once again—for summer entertaining, afternoon sea breezes and many years to come.

Stage One: Careful Demolition

Every successful renovation begins with understanding what's beneath the surface.

For this project, the existing deck as no longer salvageable, so the first step was to carefully demolish the structure while protecting the surrounding home and preparing the site for rebuilding. This also gave us the opportunity to inspect the existing foundations and ensure the new structure would provide a safe, long-lasting result.

Stage Two: Building a Strong Foundation

The longevity of any deck starts with its structure.

New custom-fabricated steel posts were installed, along with new bearers and joists, creating a solid foundation designed to withstand Sunshine Coast conditions for years to come. While these structural elements are largely hidden once construction is complete, they're the most important part of the project, providing the strength, durability and stability that homeowners rely on every day.

Stage Three: Ready to Enjoy Again

With the structural work complete, our clients can once again enjoy one of the best parts of their home.

The rebuilt deck provides a safe and durable outdoor space that's ready for everything from quiet morning coffees to entertaining family and friends throughout summer. More importantly, they can enjoy it with confidence, knowing it's been rebuilt to a high standard and designed for the coastal environment.

Thinking About Replacing Your Deck?

Outdoor structures are exposed to the elements year-round, particularly here on the Sunshine Coast. If your deck is showing signs of age, it's worth having it professionally assessed before minor issues become major structural problems.

A few things to look out for include:

  • Soft, rotting or weathered timber

  • Movement or bounce underfoot

  • Rusting or deteriorating supports and fixings

  • Visible cracks, warping or sagging

  • Water pooling around structural elements

Replacing the structural components at the right time can improve safety, extend the life of your outdoor area and give you confidence that your deck is built to last.
